History of Yoga & Modern Implications Workshop

For the modern practitioner who wishes to engage with yoga with greater historical and cultural sensitivity and responsibility. This workshop is a yoga practice & discussion with Meghan Maris who has been teaching Yoga since 2000. She is currently a student of LMU's Master of Arts in Yoga Studies.


Hatha Yoga Practice: (11am-12:30pm)

Haṭha Yoga class to utilize the body, breath, mind, and philosophy as modalities to explore Yoga as "Skill in Action." Directly experiencing how a dedicated yoga practice renders the clarity of mind to take action with greater sensitivity and awareness expanding our ability to be more compassionate, loving, and accountable to ourselves, others, and Earth.

An Overview of the History of Yoga and Modern Implications (1-2:30pm)

A discussion to explore Yoga's long and evolving history, highlighting key philosophical developments and intersections within the many dharmic traditions of South Asia. We will also critically investigate the role that colonialism has played in the way that the west has inherited, understands (or misunderstands), and practices yoga today.
